Enjoy the open seas, fishing and boating? Consider a career in maritime. You could work on fishing charters, commercial vessels or tourist boats, instructing crew and driving and maintaining vessels. These roles require strong skills in leadership and communication, teamwork and resilience.

On-the-job training:

Start your career at school through on-the-job training in one of:

  • MAR30821 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal)
  • MAR30921 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24 metres Near Costal)
OR

Off-the-job training:

Start VET study at school through off-the-job training in:

  • MAR20321 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)
  • MARSS00008 Shipboard Safety Skill Set

Industry specific requirements, including:

  • Radio Operators Licence
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • Recreational Boat Licence for students over 16 years old

Pastoral care – mentoring and monitoring

THEN

WORK IN YOUR CAREER

Use your VET qualification to work as:

  • Coxswain
  • Deck Hand
  • Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 (2nd year of traineeship)
